(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The 12th official meeting of the fourth round of the Assembly of Experts started here Tuesday presided by Chairman of the Assembly Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani.
During the two-day meeting, members of the Assembly will be briefed on the body's performance during the past Iranian calendar year (Ended on March 19, 2012).
Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili will also present reports on activities of their related bodies.
The Assembly is a deliberative body of 86 Mujtahids (Islamic scholars) that are elected from list of candidates by direct public vote to eight-year terms and the chairman is elected by the members for one year.
Based on current laws, the Assembly meets for at least two days, twice annually.
According to the Article 107 of Iran's Constitution, the Assembly of Experts is in charge of appointing the Supreme Leader of the country and monitoring his affairs.
